Scheduler or done-for-you social media? (2026)
Short answer
A scheduler such as Buffer ($5 a month per channel), Later ($18.75 a month billed yearly) or Hootsuite (from $99 a month per user) publishes posts you have already made. A done-for-you service makes them too. Klipt costs €300 a month for 30 pieces. Pick a scheduler if you have the hours to create, done-for-you if you do not. Prices checked November 2026.
This guide is for owners who already know they should post more and are choosing between two kinds of help: software that publishes for you, or a service that makes the posts and publishes them. At the end you will know what each one costs in money and in hours, and which one fits your week.
What is the difference between a scheduler and a done-for-you service?
A scheduler publishes posts you have made, at the time you chose. A done-for-you service makes the posts too: the idea, the visual, the caption, then the publishing. With the first you pay in hours, with the second you pay in money.
Buffer, Later and Hootsuite are schedulers. You connect your accounts, upload a photo or video, write the caption and pick a slot. The tool then posts it, even if you are behind the counter. Some add AI helpers for captions, but the idea and the photo still come from you.
A done-for-you service starts from your business (website, photos, offers, tone) and sends you finished posts to approve. You check, you say yes or ask for a change, and it goes out. Our guide on what done-for-you social media is and what it costs covers the category in detail.
How much do Buffer, Later and Hootsuite cost in 2026?
Buffer is the cheapest paid option at $5 a month per channel, Later starts at $18.75 a month billed yearly, and Hootsuite starts at $99 a month per user. All three prices were read on their own pricing pages on 2 November 2026.
| Tool | Free option | Entry price (Nov 2026) | What the entry plan covers |
|---|---|---|---|
| Buffer | Free plan, 3 channels, 10 scheduled posts per channel | $5/month per channel (Buffer, 2026) | 1 channel per $5, so 3 accounts = $15 |
| Later | 14-day trial, no free plan | $18.75/month, billed yearly (Later, 2026) | 1 social set (8 profiles), 1 user, 30 posts per profile |
| Hootsuite | 14-day trial, no free plan | From $99/month per user (Hootsuite, 2026) | Up to 10 social accounts |
Buffer's page shows the yearly Essentials plan at $60, which is 12 × $5, while its FAQ promises a discount for yearly billing. Check the price at checkout. For a wider list with design and AI tools, see our best social media tools for small business.
What does a scheduler not do for you?
A scheduler does not find the idea, take the photo, design the post or write the caption. Those steps are most of the work, and they stay with you every week.
Think of one reel for a café. Someone has to decide the subject (the new seasonal drink), film it during a quiet moment, cut it, add subtitles, write a caption with the price and the opening hours, then upload it. The scheduler only handles the last step: posting at 11:30 instead of when you remember.
That is why an empty scheduler changes nothing. If your calendar has three posts in it, the tool posts three posts. The question to ask before you pay is not "which tool?" but "who fills it?"
How many hours does each option leave you?
With a scheduler you still make every post, so the hours depend on how often you post. With a done-for-you service your time drops to approving, a few minutes a day or one sitting a week.
Posting often pays: Instagram accounts posting 6 to 9 times a week grew followers about 3.7 times faster than accounts posting once or twice, in a Buffer study of 2.1 million posts from 102,000 accounts (Buffer, 2025). Yet in a survey by Fiverr of nearly 6,000 small-business owners in 25 countries, 70% said they spend less than five hours a week on their marketing (Fiverr via Stock Titan, 2025).
Here is the maths with an example you can change. If one post takes you 30 minutes from idea to upload, 6 posts a week is 3 hours a week, about 13 hours a month. At 1 hour per post, it is 6 hours a week. Put your own minutes in: that number is the real price of a scheduler.
| Scheduler (you make the posts) | Done-for-you (you approve) | |
|---|---|---|
| Ideas, photos, captions | You | The service |
| Publishing at the right time | The tool | The service |
| Your time for 6 posts a week | 6 × your minutes per post (example: 3 h at 30 min) | Reading and approving |
| Money each month | $0 to $99+ | €300 at Klipt; $750 to $1,500 for a freelancer |
How much does done-for-you cost compared to a scheduler?
Done-for-you costs far more than a scheduler in money: €300 a month excl. VAT at Klipt, against $0 to $99 for the tools above. It costs far less than a person: a freelance social media manager charges $750 to $1,500 a month for 1 or 2 networks and 3 to 5 posts a week (SolidGigs, 2026).
So the fair comparison is not €300 against $15. It is €300 against $15 plus your hours. If those 13 hours a month would otherwise go to customers, stock or rest, the gap shrinks. If you enjoy making content and have the time, a scheduler is the better deal, full stop.
A third path sits in between: AI content tools that draft posts for you to edit and schedule. They cost more than a scheduler and less than a service, and you still check every draft. Our AI social media tools comparison lays out their prices.
Where does Klipt fit?
Klipt Studio (that's us) is a done-for-you studio, AI-powered and supervised by people. It makes 30 pieces a month, one a day, from your website, photos, offers and tone, and publishes them on the networks you choose.
- Price: €300 a month excl. VAT, one plan, monthly, cancel anytime (see the offer).
- Networks: Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, LinkedIn, X, Threads, Pinterest, YouTube Shorts, same price however many.
- Approval: each post waits on your phone with the reason behind it; one tap to approve, or ask for a change in plain words. You can also review a whole week at once, or run it all from WhatsApp.
- Not for you if: you need someone to reply to comments and direct messages (not included yet), or you like making your own posts and only need them published on time. Then Buffer's free plan is enough.
You do not need a scheduler on top of Klipt: publishing is included. We promise a professional post every day, not new customers.
Which one should you choose?
Choose a scheduler if you have the hours and the ideas but forget to post. Choose done-for-you if the posts never get made in the first place.
| Your situation | Good fit |
|---|---|
| You make content you like, you just post irregularly | Buffer Free |
| You plan an Instagram grid and TikToks visually | Later |
| A team manages many accounts and approvals | Hootsuite |
| You want drafts to edit yourself | An AI content tool plus a scheduler |
| You have no time to make posts but want one a day | A done-for-you service such as Klipt |
| You want a person who also answers messages | A freelancer or an agency |

FAQ
Is Buffer enough for a small business?
Often yes, if you make your own posts: the free plan covers 3 channels with 10 scheduled posts each, and Essentials is $5 a month per channel (November 2026). Buffer does not make the posts for you.
Does a done-for-you service replace a scheduler?
Yes. A done-for-you service publishes the posts it makes, so you do not need a separate scheduler. At Klipt, publishing on every chosen network is included in the €300 a month.
Is Hootsuite worth it for one shop?
Usually not. Hootsuite starts at $99 a month per user for up to 10 accounts (November 2026), and its team features go beyond what one shop needs.
Why pay €300 when a scheduler is free?
Because the scheduler does not make the posts. The €300 pays for 30 finished pieces a month; with a scheduler you supply them yourself, in your own hours.
Can I try a scheduler before paying?
Buffer has a free plan; Later and Hootsuite offer 14-day trials (checked November 2026).
